Our client is a high-growth, enterprise-focused organization operating at the forefront of a rapidly evolving threat landscape. To enable this next chapter, they are searching for a hands-on, strategically minded Controller to lead financial operations at the business-unit level, elevate reporting accuracy, and build systems and processes that support scalable growth.
This is a full-time hybrid position with flexibility to travel between Canada and the US for various leadership meetings.
Why this role?
This is a rare opportunity to step in as the most senior finance leader within the business unit and shape financial strategy during a pivotal growth stage. You will operate with autonomy, minimal bureaucracy, and direct access to executive decision-makers, helping define financial processes, enhance reporting accuracy, and influence strategic investment across the organization.
As the company strengthens its finance capabilities, you will play a central role in transforming how financial data is captured, analyzed, and used to drive performance. You will improve systems, build repeatable processes, and introduce metrics that enable leaders to make timely, informed decisions.
You will lead a function with limited structure, establish financial discipline, and build a foundation that positions the organization for future CFO-level leadership. This role is ideal for someone ready to expand into broader finance leadership, balancing strategic influence with hands-on operational ownership.
You will:
- Lead financial operations. You will oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and month-end close. You will ensure accuracy, strengthen internal controls, maintain audit-ready processes, and provide timely, reliable financial information that supports decision-making. You will independently own full-cycle accounting, demonstrating the judgment and discipline expected of the top finance leader in the business unit.
- Drive business-unit finance transformation. You will lead the transition from a centralized finance model to a structure aligned with individual business units. You will design budgeting, cost allocation, and reporting frameworks that support scalability, accountability, and operational performance. You will introduce new tools, processes, and financial governance models that enable growth and transparency.
- Elevate reporting, metrics, and analysis. You will deliver accurate financial statements, KPIs, and operational metrics. You will translate data into actionable insights for the executive team. You will improve manual processes, advance automation, and build dashboards that track performance, support investment decisions, and guide long-term planning.
- Partner at the executive level. You will work directly with the CEO and business leaders to provide financial insights for strategic initiatives, board-level reporting, and investor communications. You will influence planning, capital allocation, pricing evaluation, and integration work for new business initiatives or acquisitions. You will serve as a trusted advisor with the maturity to challenge assumptions and guide decisions.
- Optimize systems and processes. You will lead enhancements to ERP systems, workflows, and controls, leveraging technology and analytics to increase efficiency and reliability. You will design scalable systems from the ground up, identify automation opportunities, and implement best-practice accounting frameworks.
You bring:
- The leadership. You are motivated by the opportunity to bring clarity and structure to an ambiguous environment, guiding an accountant's work and collaborating with leaders. You are comfortable being the senior-most finance leader at the business-unit level, providing direction without day-to-day oversight, establishing financial discipline, and acting as the bridge to future VP/CFO-level leadership.
- The experience. You have progressive accounting experience, growing into a Controller or senior finance leadership role. You have overseen full-cycle accounting, led audits, owned the month-end close, and managed financial reporting independently. You have experience advising executives and preparing materials suitable for boards or investors. You have operated in a fast-growing or evolving environment, where strengthening controls, reporting, and structure were essential. A CPA is preferred; an MBA is a strong asset.
- The strategic and operational balance. You excel at building processes from scratch, improving existing systems, and maintaining accuracy while driving transformation. You bring practical experience and insights to solve detailed accounting issues and guide company-wide decisions.
- The technical knowledge. You have an in-depth understanding gained through experience of how financial planning, reporting, and accounting operations influence growth, performance, and strategy. You bring advanced Excel and ERP system expertise, as well as deep knowledge of accounting standards and internal controls. You have the technical depth to independently determine appropriate accounting treatments, including IFRS, revenue recognition, and consolidation principles, and to guide leaders through the financial implications of strategic decisions. You are comfortable implementing automation and building scalable processes that reduce manual effort and risk.
- The interpersonal strengths. You build trust quickly, communicate clearly, and influence effectively across teams. You bring professionalism, maturity, and balanced judgment. You are skilled at explaining financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders and can hold your own in executive-level discussions.
