     The opportunity

Our GTA-based high-mix contract manufacturing client is hiring a Manager of Engineering, Product Development.

As a highly technical Engineer, you will apply mechanical design fundamentals and product development expertise to challenge design concepts, mentor the team, and play a critical role in delivering manufacturable and visually refined solutions.

Your expertise will guide teams through complex mechanical decisions, from evaluating design intent to shaping advanced sheet-metal, injection-moulded, and extrusion-based assemblies. You will challenge assumptions, mentor engineers, and ensure every product achieves manufacturable, high-quality, and cosmetically refined results.

This is a chance to champion engineering best practices across Business Units, integrating DFMA principles and value engineering into all product development activities.

This job posting is for an existing full-time vacancy.

Why this role?

Make decisions that elevate technical quality, manufacturability, and value engineering outcomes across major brands.

Shape the engineering function by leading product development from concept to production, including early design collaboration, rigorous reviews, prototype validation, and final package release.

Set technical standards, strengthen processes, and enhance cross-functional execution to build systems that support faster, more consistent engineering.

Deepen your leadership impact and expand your technical influence by building a high-performance engineering culture.

You will:

  • Lead a cross-disciplinary team. You will guide Design Engineers, Product Modellers, Engineering Schedulers, and Quality Control Technicians. You will recruit, onboard, mentor, conduct reviews, set goals, execute development plans, and foster a high-performance culture. You will manage resource sharing across Business Units, balance seasonal demand, and monitor time-off approvals.
  • Manage engineering activities from concept through prototype sign-off. You will ensure all deliverables meet technical requirements, client expectations, and internal standards. You will maintain rigorous expectations for presentations, engineering packages, and documentation to support efficient transitions to production.
  • Provide design engineering expertise. You will offer clear feedback, approvals, and direction on engineering outputs. You will lead brainstorming sessions, embed value engineering and DFMA principles, and review design concepts through hands-on mentorship. You will guide advanced mechanical design across sheet metal, injection moulding, and extrusion assemblies to ensure robust, manufacturable, and cosmetically refined outcomes.
  • Optimize. You will identify opportunities to strengthen methodologies, quality standards, and processes.
You will facilitate resource sharing, anticipate workload fluctuations, and partner with peers to balance engineering capacity. You will work with resource analysts to support tools and processes that improve visibility and planning. You will support the development of tools and processes to enhance project visibility, workload management, and organizational efficiency.
  • Apply compliance and continuous improvement. You will audit adherence to SOPs, PDM file management, custom properties, Bills of Materials, engineering package completeness, milestone delivery, and task updates. You will identify training needs, reinforce BOM accuracy and PDM datacard usage, and uphold all safety, policy, health, and environmental standards.

You bring:

  • Technical expertise. You have a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and experience in progressive product development within a custom manufacturing environment. You have highly developed skills with SolidWorks, PDM, and standard productivity tools. You bring strong mechanical design judgement and advanced modelling skills aligned with industry best practices. You have deep experience launching products with refined aesthetics and tight integration between Industrial Design and Engineering. You have advanced proficiency in: sheet metal design; injection moulding (extrusion design and aesthetic assemblies).
  • The people management. You are a proven technical team leader who can challenge your engineers to think innovatively. You provide guidance grounded in real-world product development and DFMA best practices. You foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • The project management. You communicate clearly across functions and levels, provide effective direction, and present technical information with confidence. You build strong relationships with internal teams, clients, and partners.
You understand client objectives, manage expectations, translate requirements into practical engineering solutions, identify process gaps, and positively influence decisions. You manage multiple priorities, navigate change, make sound decisions, and consistently deliver high-quality work on time.
